Psychologist, Marine Educator, Photographer, Speaker and Naturalist. Through the years Vanessa has combined her profession as a Psychologist and Educator with her passion for Nature. As a Psychologist specialized in Social-Emotional Behaviour, she has always shown a particular interest in orcas and their social-emotional area. For over 10 years she has used her photography to raise awareness in thousands of people, mainly kids ,by giving Marine Education and Conservation Talks in Mexico and Canada. She is co-founder and director of the marine education and conservation NGO named MAREA.
Vanessa created her own Marine Education Program which she teaches in schools and groups in Mexico and Canada.
During the summers she works as a Marine Naturalist on the west coast of Canada, mainly with orcas. But also with humpback whales that, like her, live in Mexico and Canada.
She has collaborated in the protection of marine wildlife with national and international organizations.
She has participated in different photography exhibitions in Mexico, including two collaborations in underwater photography exhibitions at the Natural History Museum in Mexico City.
In 2020 she had her first photographic exhibition in Canada entitled "Fragile Beauty: the Heart of the Oceans" at the Mexican Consulate in Vancouver to show Mexico´s marine treasures. This exhibition will go on tour to the other consulates of Canada, to the Mexican Embassy and universities like SFU, amongst others.
She has received several acknowledgements for her work in education and marine conservation. She was chosen to be part of "Inspirational Stories" of the Mexican television network TV Azteca, by Alternancia Magazine as part of "Ten people who are changing Mexico". In Canada, she was nominated as a Latina woman in the "Helpful woman" category for her work as a Psychologist and Marine Educator.
In Argentina she was chosen to participate in the documentary "Matriarchs of the Oceans" (about women who work on subjects related to Orcas) for her educational and conservation work on these cetaceans.
During the pandemic she wrote, directed and produced her first documentary on orcas, dolphins and belugas entitled “Contrasts”, with the support of renowned photographers and organizations from different parts of the world.
This film has won several awards in many international film festivals and has been translated from Spanish to English, Russian, Japanese and currently it is being translated to Chinese.
